By now you probably know that REI took a big step outdoors and away from Black Friday. We think that is awesome! What you probably don't know is Jerry has one of our Rainier benchmarks on his desk! This article in the New York Times displays his favorite things in his office, including a first edition of our Rainier benchmark.

Back then, we couldn't find anyone who had a photo of the benchmark, and by all reports, the summit was covered in ice and snow. So we did the best we could by using the description of the mark in the survey data sheet.

Shown here is Jerry's first edition benchmark. We sold out completely, even selling ours from our personal collection.

 Since then, we received a photo from surveyor Larry Signani.

Boy, were we close! We moved the stamping "MT. RAINIER" to the lower half, and, there it was, NEW AND IMPROVED!
